Safe Transport of Children in Kraków and the Region — Car Seats and Regulations

01.10.2026

Every year we drive thousands of children around Kraków and Małopolska — to kindergartens in Bronowice and Podgórze, on school trips to Energylandia, the Wieliczka Salt Mine, Ojcowski National Park, or simply to the Kraków Zoo. Parents and teachers often ask us the same question: what do Polish law and common sense actually require when transporting a group of children by bus or minibus? Here is a practical answer from a company that does this work daily on the roads of Kraków and the region.

What Polish regulations say about children in vehicles

Under Polish traffic law, a child under 150 cm tall travelling in a passenger car must use an appropriate child restraint system (a car seat or booster) matched to their height and weight. This rule applies fully to transfers in our 8-seat buses used for smaller groups — for example when we pick up a family with young children for an airport transfer to Kraków-Balice or Katowice-Pyrzowice. On request, we fit certified child seats or booster cushions for these trips; just let us know the number and approximate age of the children when booking so our dispatcher in Kraków can prepare the right equipment in advance.

The situation is different for larger coaches and buses used in organized group transport — school trips, kindergarten outings, or parish and sports club trips around Małopolska. Vehicles above a certain seating capacity, where passengers travel in forward-facing seats equipped with seat belts, don't require individual child seats; instead, the law focuses on seat belt use (where fitted) and proper adult supervision ratios for the group. For a 20-person bus heading to Zakopane or a 50-seat coach taking a whole class to the Wieliczka mine, our drivers always remind teachers and guardians about buckling up and keeping the aisle clear, and we coordinate boarding points so the group doesn't have to cross busy roads like ul. Wielicka or ul. Zakopiańska on foot.

How we prepare transport for children in practice

Before every trip involving children — whether it's a single transfer from Kraków city centre to Balice airport or a full-day school excursion to Ojców — our drivers check that all seat belts are functional, the air conditioning is set appropriately for the season, and the vehicle has been cleaned and ventilated beforehand. For kindergarten and primary school groups, we recommend booking a driver who already has experience with young passengers; our Kraków-based drivers are used to shorter boarding times, frequent stops, and clear communication with teachers about head
